Rutgers Today reported on WRI Faculty Fellow Michael Hayes’ “Our Piece of the Pie” study as a top story, highlighting the funding disparities for South Jersey’s poorest municipalities.

RESEARCH

South Jersey’s most economically distressed municipalities receive one-third less state funding than similarly poor cities and towns in Central and
North Jersey, according to research by the Senator Walter Rand Institute for Public Affairs at Rutgers-Camden. “New Jersey policymakers should determine if the formula should be updated to address this disparity,” says the study’s author Michael Hayes, an assistant professor of public policy and administration at Rutgers-Camden.
