WRI has awarded its Inaugural Endowed Graduate Fellowship for South Jersey Initiatives to Nathaniel Merrill. Nathaniel is a doctoral student in the Computational and Integrative Biology program at Rutgers-Camden.

His research intends to give us a better understanding of how diabetes affects populations and individuals in South Jersey and how to alter the course of the disease.  In service of this effort, Nathaniel will develop a method to forecast how diabetes may evolve in the region. He is developing a structured population model to establish this forecast and isolate efficient ways to improve health outcomes.

The Fellowship has been established through the efforts of WRI’s Advisory Board and funded by proceeds from the Annual Walter and Leah Rand Awards and Scholarship Dinner.
